I’ll be the first person to admit that when I was competing my off season consistency was a bit of a battle. I would finish doing a show in June and wouldn’t compete again until the following April. Here’s my dirty little secret. I didn’t stay consistent. It took me about 2 seasons of this consistent non-consistent behavior for me to realize that if I was consistent with my off-season nutrition and workouts getting it together for a show wouldn’t be as hard.

For those of you don’t compete. You know what I’m talking about you know you watch what you are eating to get ready for a friend’s wedding or vacation and once that event happens you go back to your old ways and then wonder how you put the weight back on. With consistency, anything is possible. In real estate, it’s about location, location, location. In fitness, it’s about consistency, consistency consistency.

I know first hand that consistency is tough. In order to remain consistent, we need to change is our mindset. Our healthy lifestyle is a CHOICE not a death sentence. On my program, I encourage you to eat clean at least 80% of the time. For the 20%, these are the meals that we should savor and enjoy. It’s when we have those little nibbles, bites or I’ll do it just once’s that eventually catch up with us. So.. how do you stay consistent’

Patience. Know that consistency will pay off. Many of you want week-by-week changes, sadly our bodies don’t agree. We need to trust the process and stay the course knowing that your best body is just waiting for it’s unveiling.

Taking Consistent Action. I feel you; I can be one of the biggest procrastinators on the block. The two things that make me take action with my fitness is making a plan and recipes. Each week I sit down and schedule my workouts in my calendar. I treat it like an appointment I can’t break. Now if something does come up, I go back to my calendar and reschedule the workout, but trust me it must be HUGE for me to give up a workout. As for my nutrition, I’m a big fan of recipes. On Saturday mornings while I’m drinking my coffee I pour through the internet to find new clean recipes or recipes that I can make clean. Trust me I’m no Rachael Ray, but I do what I can. Here is of my favorite sites. All Recipes

Setting A Goal. Each month I set a goal. With each goal, I give myself a reward. Have you heard of a little place name Lululemon’ That place is my personal fitness reward center. When I have a goal, I’m like a machine especially with a reward like Lulu! Here are some examples of goals I set for myself in the past — By the end of a month I will mix up my cardio. I will get on a new piece of cardio each time I go to the gym. I will try 3 new starches during this month. I will limit myself to 2-cheat meals/week – no nibbling. Make sense’

At the end of the day we all want results. Want to know the secret to getting results’ Being consistent! Feeling stuck or stalled” Reach out. I am running 30 Day Slim Down Challenge to help jumpstart us all toward summer.

So here were are 6 months into 2011 and I’m revisiting what I’m doing for me this year. This is the longest that I have gone without a fitness goal. I got to tell you I’m a feeling a little out of sorts.

This past week I sat down and got clear about what I want to accomplish between now and the end of 2011.

1. Finish the Falmouth Road Race

I’d like to run this in under 1 hour

I’d like to properly train for this race, the past few years I’ve done a half ass job training for it.

2. Compete in Women’s Trifitness

This will be my 3rd time doing it and I want to beat all my times from last year.

This year I will compete in all events except — grace and physique and fitness

3. Rebuild my legs

Somehow I’ve lost my ability to lunge without pain in my left knee. My hips and quads are all out of sync so I’ll be doing a serious of corrective exercises to bring back my lunge. Fingers crossed.

4. Lose 15 pounds

Since my last fitness competition, I took my eating for granted. I indulged a little too much here and there and wasn’t as consistent I needed to be with my workout routines, but I’m back and raring to go!

Would you like to join me on my fitness ride’ Join my Summer Shape Up Program — Join by July 1st and save big!

I am once again running the Falmouth road race with my husband. Last year was our first year, now we’re thinking about making it an annual thing. We are just a little behind in our running schedule, but we’re planning catch up this week. My first run was last Saturday night when the temperature was roughly 85 degrees. FUN.. Which is really funny given the last time I ran any long distance (January) we were looking to see when the warmest part of the day was going to be.

So the run we good but really hot, we ran again yesterday and the 3.5 miles felt much better. I am experiencing so side stitches, need to work getting my breathing in synch as well as my food timing. I think the last two times I had large meals that didn’t fully digest before I went for my run.

We’re suppose to run tonight to make up for our missed run on Sunday, but mother nature had another plan for us. It’s POURING, so we’ll be running both days this weekend to play catch up.

I’ll keep you posted on our progress. Goal this year is to run 7.1 miles in less than 1 hour.

I was reading the blogs that I keep up with regularly and read the Orlando Sentinel’s posting about fitness bucket list and it got me thinking. I love being active and challenging myself so, that article got me thinking.

These are not written in any particular order.

Consistently run the Falmouth Road race in August with Philip, my husband. It’s a 7.2 mile race on the Cape, that allows 10,000 people to run in it and its a lottery to get a number. So fingers crossed we get a number consistently.

Run a half marathon, I would like to find one that is fun and interesting through the entire way so if someone knows of one, Holla.

Beat my times in next July’s Women’s Tri Fit competition. Fingers crossed my husband decides to compete in it as well.

Learn to kayak — this is interesting as I never go in the water past my waist.

Learn to swim — yes, I’ve gone all this time without learning how to formally swim! Basically if I want to kayak, I think I should learn to swim first, just saying.

Organize/promote a fitness competition — I’ve been is so many that, don’t focus on the details. I would love to do one that focuses on the details.

Practice yoga consistently — I love yoga, but its always the first thing I dump when I get busy prepping for a fitness competition.

Relearn to squat — I lost it and I want it back!

Do a handstand — ever since I watch Nadia Comaneci score a perfect 10. I have been obsessed with gymnastics.

My husband and I have been talking about running the Falmouth Road race for years and we DID IT!!! It was 7.2 miles of FUN. The entire course was lined with cheering fans which was AWESOME, especially when this woman at mile 5 told us all that it would get better if we smiled. Which made everyone around us smile. Along the course there were numerous musicians playing motivational songs. Best of all was following a gentlemen who was dressed like David Lee Roth circa 1984.

The race was so well organized, while you did wait in line it was only because you were waiting with 10,000 people to get on the bus to the finish line and to use the portapotty prior to the race. Typically a race thins out once you get to the 1 mile mark, but no so much with this one because the course is so tight.

Best of all is that I enjoyed training with my husband, this was the first time we have ever trained for an event together and it was so much fun to spend quality time training together and yes we crossed the finish lines together. This year we finished the race in [01:16:09]. Now I have a number to try to beat next year. Fingers crossed I get lucky in the lottery. In the meantime I’m looking for a new goal. Any suggestions’

Today is our last big run before the race. We will be running 6.2 miles. The humidity is suppose to break or it will be a long, hot sweaty run. If you are in Boston and want to tag along meet us on the river. BTW have I told you that the race doesn’t allow headphones so we have been training without our ipods. I thought it would be hard, but not so much. You really get into a nice rhythm listening to your footsteps and your breathing its kind of meditative.

My husband and I met 15 years ago at a Falmouth Road Race race party. A mutual friend invited us and who knew 15 years later I would be sitting here married to Philip and planning to run the Falmouth road race. Philip and I are not sentimental l people at all, but every year we have talked about running this race when we hit a milestone in our relationship. On August 9th it will be 15 years that we have been together. Needless to say I am a little SHOCKED at how fast time goes by and he is still the first person that I want to talk to when I get up in the morning and the last person I want to talk to when I go to bed. Enough sentimental stuff… So, we have been training for the road race since mid June, slowly building up our mileage. We have 2 weeks to go and today is a milestone run, 5.5 miles. In 2000 I ran the Tufts 10K and that was the last time I ran for more than 20 minutes on a treadmill. So today is our first LONG run.

Now let me explain the type of runner I am vs. Philip. I run to accomplish the mileage set up. Philip is out to break records only to literally feel the burn, 1/2 to 3/4 of the way through the run. Last week we ran 4 miles in 48 minutes which was a little or 10 min miles. When we started we were training we were running 7-8 minute miles. That’s what hard to Philip to come to grips with as you increase your mileage keeping your speed. Again I’m all about survival. So on a hot and humid day we will do our 5 mile run.

The thing I like most about training for the race is that is gives Philip and I something to do together. We both are very active and typically our activities don’t overlap. Now we make time for each other and schedule our runs together, its been really great. So what are some activities that you and your husband/family/significant other do together.

No fooling, there is actually a day that celebrates runners! Well I am a born again runner. Back in the day, when I had a job that STRESSED me out, I would go out and just run. It made me feel so much better, I got addicted to runner’s high. I basically started running because my doctor doesn’t believe in just handing out drugs, so she told me to start exercising, do yoga and recommended I read a book called “Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff”. Yes, I did curse her out in my mind on the way home.

Well, I gave running a try and guess what, it worked. My headaches and upset stomachaches went away. I actually started to look to forwarded to running and it felt amazing when I set running goals for myself and broke time records. It was AMAZING. Then I decided to start doing road races to give me a goal to keep running. Wow how motivating it was it to set a goal and meet it.

My husband and I met 15 years ago at the Falmouth Road Race, so we decided that this year we would run the race together. Well, fingers crossed we make it in, it’s a really competitive race!
