In the US approximately 1.4 million cups of tea are consumed each year. For me I love to have a piping hot cup of coffee in the morning. Followed my morning protein shake. Depending on what you’re looking for a wide variety of drinks and supplements can be beneficial to your diet, but there’s no better companion to maintaining a healthy lifestyle than a fresh cup of delicious green tea.
Green tea does have caffeine which will help you wake up (f you aren’t a coffee drinker or chose to make a switch from having coffee first thing). If you are sensitive to caffeine it enough to leave you feeling jittery. Green tea also contains an amino acid called L-theanine which works together with caffeine to improve brain function, helping you to start and stay productive throughout your day.
Green also helps to improve your fitness. It’s great for hydration because it doesn’t make you have to pee =) like other caffeinated drink choices (well, more than normal at least). Additionally some studies have shown that green tea helps to increase your metabolism and help to burn fat, making it a good partner for workouts and exercise. This week, replacing one sugary drink with one or two cups of green tea over the course of a year can save you as much as 50,000 calories!
Green tea isn’t just great for fitness, it also helps to protect your health and keep your body and mind safe. The compounds in green tea as well as its healthy effects on blood vessels help to protect you against Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases and can even help improve your memory. The antioxidants in green tea also help to reduce the risk of cancer and its effect on blood sugar levels and stability go a long way in preventing type 2 diabetes. There’s no end to the list of good things green tea can do for your body!
You can find green tea just about anywhere, from your local grocery store to a specialty tea shop or market so you don’t have to dig around to find something affordable and tasty to enjoy. The next time you’re at the store, pick up some green tea and give it a try. It’s something your body will thank you for. By the way you want the green tea leaves, what you find in the bottle at your local retailer. You can find fresh brewed green tea at your local coffee shops — I’m a sucker for an afternoon large green ice tea!
