So.. this morning at work we had a long discussion about Thanksgiving side dishes. Here are some of the conclusions we came up with, but I would love to here your thoughts.
Macaroni and cheese
should not contain onions, bread crumbs or Velveeta or American cheese!
SHOULD contain — real cheese, milk, eggs and macaroni
Sweet Potatoes
should not be sliced
SHOULD BE whipped or mashed and baked in a pie, served as a side dish or if you need the extra fiber baked and served in the skin.
Stuffing
this was a VERY controversial issue! Some were all about it, and some were just say no! I am of the school that stuffing is nothing but WET BREAD would you eat wet bread on any other day’ Then why would you do it on Thanksgiving.
Cranberry Sauce
another controversial one
some were all about the chunky cranberry sauce
others were shake it out of the can with can marks and all
me.. it’s ALL NASTY and just say no!
So.. talk me what are you thoughts on side dishes, have a missed any, please share!!!
Get out of my head! That is what I want to say first because you did it again. I was just thinking of some clean eating recipes I can make for Thanksgiving that would be great and the whole family would love. Cranberry sauce is a subject that I rather skip because I love homemade and my hubby loves out of the can. I am thinking on looking for one that is jelled like the can where I drain the cranberries. Not sure if this would work. Maybe Ill just skip that and let him eat what he wants there because of all the sugar that goes into the homemade cranberry sauce. I love the mac and cheese idea for my boys. My family makes an apple and squash recipe that is delish. Ill try to see if I can get the recipe to share and perhaps clean it up if it needs to be. 🙂

@Michelle — yes please share the apple squash recipe. The mac amd cheese a pure treat and I only eat it 2x years Thanksgiving and Christmas. I’ve been experimenting with some recipes out of this cookbook http://www.amazon.com/Forks-Over-Knives-Cookbook-Plant-Based/dp/1615190619/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1382132756&sr=8-3&keywords=knives+over+forks — they have a great cheese alternative sauce. My husband even likes it.
