A few years ago, I started hearing about morning routines and I didn’t really get. Let’s be honest with each other Mornings can be a hectic and rushed time. You may be trying to get yourself, kids, dog ready for the day and out the door on time with some sanity.
Starting your day out feeling frazzled, cranky, and overwhelmed isn’t good for anyone. A simple solution to make things a whole lot less stressful is to create a morning ritual for yourself that you perform each and every day. Let me explain to you what I mean by this and how a good morning routine can set the tone for a calm day.
A morning routine is a series of actions you take every morning to help set the tone for your day. The thing about a morning routine is that it doesn’t have to take much time. It’s a form of daily self-care that helps you to begin each day feeling energized, relaxed, and purposeful. Morning routines are personal and unique. You decide what that can be for you. It could be writing in a journal, meditating, exercising, or sitting in complete silence drinking a great cup of coffee. Whatever a morning routine consists of, the purpose is to help you feel prepared for – and in charge of – you day.
Benefits of a Morning Routine
They don’t need to take much time, get up 15 minutes earlier. Ladies, great things can be gained from this practice. I know for me it’s been LIFE CHANGING. My morning journaling is like my morning workouts. ANYTHING can happen that day because I know that I’ve done something for myself! I go into the day with a sense of calm and knowing that I can handle any obstacle that pops up during the day.
My mornings now leave me feeling proactive and allows me to take time for myself on a regular basis.
Keep it simple, the first most of us want to do is make it complicated Your morning routine should be tailored to activities that you choose and from which you will get the most benefit. What nourishes your soul and provide meaning to you. I do have some suggestions to get you started.
First thing is “morning pages.” Sit down and write for 5 – 15 minutes of your thoughts and feelings can be quite cathartic and healing. Workout or if you have time go for a mind clearing leisurely stroll. The extent of the workout doesn’t matter. It’s moving your body that creates energy.
Taking your movement outside can add calm and perspective. Your morning routine can start the night before, by writing down a tentative to-do list and schedule for the following day. This might seem a bit over-the-top, but it truly can help to release the tension of uncertainty by providing you with a framework for the day ahead. The best way to start is say what is the outcome you want for your day.
These are a few ideas. Do whatever makes you feel will kick start your day. Start with 15 minutes and build up to a half hour, depending on your lifestyle. The key to reaping the benefits of a morning routine is to make it a regular practice. Soon you’ll begin to see your life transform.
