Let me say the quiet part out loud.
Most women over 40 think their problem is consistency.
You’ve probably said it yourself:
“I just need to get back on track.”
“I just need more discipline.”
“I know what to do… I just need to do it.”
But after working with women for more than 15 years, I’ve noticed something interesting.
Most women aren’t inconsistent.
Their life is just full.
And that changes everything.
When you were 30 or 35, your life looked different.
You may have had:
• More time for workouts
• More predictable schedules
• Better sleep
• Less stress
• Fewer responsibilities competing for your energy
Fast forward to your 40s and 50s.
Now your calendar looks like a game of Tetris.
Work deadlines.
Kids’ schedules.
Travel.
Family responsibilities.
And on top of that, your body is changing too.
Hormones fluctuate.
Recovery takes longer.
Sleep doesn’t hit the same way it used to.
Yet many women are still trying to follow the same diet and workout plan they used 15 years ago.
Two-hour workouts.
Strict diets.
White-knuckling weekends.
No wonder it feels like you’re constantly starting over.
You’re trying to run a high-intensity plan with midlife bandwidth.
And honestly?
The math just isn’t mathing.
The fitness industry loves to tell women that success comes down to motivation, discipline, and wanting it badly enough.
But here’s the truth.
Most women already want it.
They’re smart.
They know what to eat.
They know exercise matters.
The problem isn’t knowledge.
The problem is capacity.
Capacity means:
• How much time you have
• How much energy you have
• How much stress you’re carrying
• How much mental bandwidth is available
When your capacity is maxed out, even the best plan in the world will feel impossible to follow.
Not because you’re lazy.
Because you’re human.
Think about technology for a second.
When was the last time you used a VCR?
Or even a DVD player?
Technology evolves.
We upgraded to streaming.
Same movies, different system.
Your body works the same way.
As you move through midlife, your body is running a different operating system.
That means your health strategy has to evolve too.
Trying to run the same plan you followed at 35 isn’t proof that you’re failing.
It’s proof that the strategy needs an update.
One of the biggest mindset shifts I teach is understanding that your health has different seasons.
Instead of constantly trying to push harder, you need to know which season you’re actually in.
This is your fat-loss phase.
You have the bandwidth to focus, dial in your habits, and pursue a clear goal.
This is when you’re restoring energy, rebuilding metabolism, and refueling your body after a more intense phase.
This is maintenance.
You’re protecting the progress you’ve made without pushing aggressively.
None of these seasons are wrong.
But most women are constantly trying to push even when their life clearly requires them to pull or hold.
That’s where frustration shows up.
Another reason healthy habits fall apart is because most people plan their health like this:
“This is my year.”
January rolls around and suddenly you’re trying to overhaul your entire life.
The problem?
A year is too big.
A much better approach is thinking in 90-day seasons.
Shorter time frames help you:
• Focus on realistic goals
• Adjust when life changes
• Stay motivated with visible progress
• Build habits that actually fit your life
Instead of trying to fix everything at once, you focus on the next 90 days.
That small shift makes consistency much easier.
Consistency after 40 doesn’t look like perfection.
It looks like alignment.
Your habits match your current life season.
Your workouts match your energy levels.
Your expectations match your schedule.
When your strategy fits your life, healthy habits stop feeling like a constant uphill battle.
And suddenly, the thing you thought you were missing…
consistency
starts showing up naturally.
Before you go, I’m curious:
What’s one workout or diet you used to swear by that makes you laugh now?
Your answer might reveal more about your current season than you realize.
